Waiting on Wednesday: Renegades

51F75nwz4aL

Summary:

From #1 New York Times-bestselling author Marissa Meyer, comes a high-stakes world of adventure, passion, danger, and betrayal.

Secret Identities.
Extraordinary Powers.
She wants vengeance. He wants justice.

The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies—humans with extraordinary abilities—who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone…except the villains they once overthrew.

Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice—and in Nova. But Nova’s allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.

Why I’m Excited:

Do I even need to say that I’m a HUGE Marissa Meyer fan? (Okay maybe my Lunar Chronicles collection takes up an entire shelf on one of my bookcases…)

So far Meyer has never let me down and I have been waiting for this book for a long time since it was just whispers of “a superhero story” years ago.

A book that has some series X-Men vibes? Sign. Me. Up.

Renegades releases November 7, 2017, and I’ve had it preordered for months, so go ahead and preorder yours too!

Spring Break TBR!

It’s FINALLY here!

I’d be lying if I said that the schedule isn’t a perk of my job as a school librarian.

Like…it’d be  BIG lie.

That said, Spring Break is finally here next week!

I originally planned to go to Universal in Orlando and experience the World of Harry Potter, but I kind of kept dragging around on planning and never booked that trip.

Sometime early last week my favorite band, The Avett Brothers, sent out an email to fan club members announcing an opportunity for the first 250 members to respond to an email and join the world premiere screening and a Q&A for their upcoming documentary (directed by Judd Apatow!!) at South by Southwest. This also includes a performance at the Moody theatre later that evening. I was about an hour after it went out replying, but figured I’d give it a shot knowing this would occur and then the next day I found out…I’m headed to AUSTIN!

So.

Where I live to Austin is about an 8 hour drive, so I should have plenty of time for reading.

That said, here’s three books that I hope to read over Spring Break!

Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.

At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.

Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

I’ve been meaning to read Heartless FOREVER and I got my friends to pick it for our book club selection this month so that I’d finally stop and read it. I’m a big Marissa Meyer and Alice in Wonderland fan and anticipate that I’ll like this one.

Amy Curry is not looking forward to her summer. Her mother decided to move across the country and now it’s Amy’s responsibility to get their car from California to Connecticut. The only problem is, since her father died in a car accident, she isn’t ready to get behind the wheel. Enter Roger. An old family friend, he also has to make the cross-country trip – and has plenty of baggage of his own. The road home may be unfamiliar – especially with their friendship venturing into uncharted territory – but together, Amy and Roger will figure out how to map their way.

Okay, so I’ve never read a Morgan Matson book even with as much as I like cute contemporaries. I was recently gifted this from my sister sister in the #otspsecretsister program and am looking forward to reading it. What better time to read a roadtrip book than on a roadtrip, right?

512q8az-kzl-_sx329_bo1204203200_

I started it the day it was released in October and hit a reading rut and I think I’m ready to tackle it again. Enough said? I know that I’ll love it. I’ve heard it’s even better than Illuminae was, so I’m looking foward to it.

I obviously hope that I can read more than just these 3, but these are where I plan to start!

What’s on your TBR right now or have you read any of these 3 books?

ALSO! I’m open to any suggestions for when I’m in Austin for food or cool things to see!

Heartless by Marissa Meyer—Cover Reveal!

Heartless

If my love for the Lunar Chronicles isn’t evident enough then let me just remind you- I absolutely adore anything that Marissa Meyer has put out so far.

I was SO excited to learn about her prequel to Alice in Wonderland, Heartless, about the queen of hearts.

Even more exciting? We now have the cover to Heartless thanks to an exclusive reveal at Entertainment Weekly that also includes a short excerpt from the novel.

This is easily one of my most anticipated reads this year and it doesn’t come out until November, so go HERE to check out the cover and excerpt!

*Have a GREAT rest of the week! I’m heading to Wizard World comicon in New Orleans this weekend and will have a wrap up of my time there on Monday!

Monday Musings!

So many things to talk about, so let’s jump into it…

First things first…

….I’m the realest?

No, that’s not right.

It’s Bookmail!!

usedtobe

I requested this awesome ARC at the beginning of the month from Simon & Schuster and was excited to find it in my mail Friday! It. Sounds. Awesome. Sad! …but awesome.

Check it out:

In the tradition of Speak, this extraordinary debut novel shares the unforgettable story of a young woman as she struggles to find strength in the aftermath of an assault.

Eden was always good at being good. Starting high school didn’t change who she was. But the night her brother’s best friend rapes her, Eden’s world capsizes.

What was once simple, is now complex. What Eden once loved—who she once loved—she now hates. What she thought she knew to be true, is now lies. Nothing makes sense anymore, and she knows she’s supposed to tell someone what happened but she can’t. So she buries it instead. And she buries the way she used to be.

Told in four parts—freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year—this provocative debut reveals the deep cuts of trauma. But it also demonstrates one young woman’s strength as she navigates the disappointment and unbearable pains of adolescence, of first love and first heartbreak, of friendships broken and rebuilt, and while learning to embrace a power of survival she never knew she had hidden within her heart.

In the tradition of SPEAK??? Don’t mind if I do! That’s one of my all-time favorites!

Second things…second?

CURRENTLY READING!

51m54kDm+DL._SX318_BO1,204,203,200_

Okay so maybe I’m too lazy to add the actual cover without the “first two chapters free!” at the top…oops?

Anyways!

My copy of Winter came on Wednesday and I immediately started it Wednesday, but I haven’t done much reading to make good progress on it. I think it’s almost like I’m scared to read it. This is honestly one of (if not THE) my favorite series, so I’m sad to see it end even thought I’m ecstatic to see how it all plays out. Hopefully I’ll be done this week and if not I’ll take it with me on vacation like I originally planned.

Speaking of vacation!

I know that Saturday I spoke of two bookstores that I plan to visit while in Nashville next week, but TOMORROW I’ll have a post about my vacation TBR!

Y’all.

A whole WEEK of no schedule!

I won’t have a 5 am alarm set so that I can leave by 6:30 to be at work by 7:15.

I love my job, but I’m SO READY for a break!

one last thing…

I have a book order coming in today at work and I’m so excited for it!

Some books are series additions that kids are ready for and some awesome series that I’m ready to get them hooked on. Either way, my kids at work are PUMPED to get some new books. I don’t know how their last librarians ordered, but I tried to genuinely choose things that I knew that they would love.

What? That’s what a librarian is supposed to do? I know that, but it shocks my kids when I give them recommendations and think SPECIFICALLY of them. It breaks my heart that they weren’t already used to that from previous librarians!

Until tomorrow with the TBR post…

Review: Fairest by Marissa Meyer

fairest

Summary:

Mirror, mirror, on the wall.
Who is the Fairest of them all?

Pure evil has a name, hides behind a mask of deceit, and uses her “glamour” to gain power. But who is Queen Levana? Long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress in The Lunar Chronicles, Levana lived a very different story–a story that has never been told . . . until now.
New York Times -bestselling author Marissa Meyer reveals the story behind her fascinating villain in Fairest, an unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes a special full-color image of Levana’s castle and an excerpt from Winter, the exciting conclusion to The Lunar Chronicles

My Thoughts:

I had no idea that I never reviewed Fairest!

So why am I now reviewing a book that came out back in February?

I just re-read Fairest in anticipation for Winter to release in two weeks!

The Lunar Chronicle books always released in the Spring and then Fairest came along and Winter got pushed back to, well, Winter. (okay, yes, I know that November is still Fall.)

Even still- the wait was worth it to have this gem of a novella!

Like most Lunar Chronicles readers, I have HATED Levana. She’s evil and crazy and just…awful. Fairest made me see her in a bit of a different light.

The book shows why she is the way that she is. Granted, this isn’t necessarily like some stories where you find out that she was just misunderstood all this time.

Oh, no. Make no mistake- Levana knows exactly what she’s doing and it is all intentional. However, the reader almost develops some sympathy for Levana thanks to different events—almost….ALMOST!! ….and then you remember all of the crazy things she’s done in response to the things that caused you to have sympathy for her.

So while I wouldn’t say that I really for sorry for Levana, I do feel like the novella made me “get” her to a certain extent. It was definitely a needed addition to the series in order to make sense of her character and actions.

Furthermore, it makes me all that much more excited for Winter! We know more about Winter and Princess Selene’s histories and I’m assuming that will be a large part of Winter now that we know what’s going on. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend reading Winter if you haven’t read Fairest- the information honestly seems to be THAT important!

Now—back to my Winter excitement!

Winter- First two chapters available!

51m54kDm+DL._SX318_BO1,204,203,200_

GUESS WHAT!!!

So earlier today I was checking out Amazon and noticed that the first TWO chapters of Winter are available to download for FREE on Kindle!

Sure, there is still almost a month until Winter releases, but…two chapters! It might actually make the wait harder, but it’s there and you should look into it if you are like me and can’t wait for Winter to come out.

Go HERE to get it!

 ALSO!!!!

I’m SO excited for Winter and want everyone to read the awesome that is the Lunar Chronicles. I just ordered the entire series for my new library and I’m ready for them to get in so that I can convert my students into being as hooked as I am with this series!

Black Widow: Forever Red

Only then will they discover the truth about the dark-eyed boy with an hourglass tattoo who haunts Ava’s dreams. . . .

Black Widow:Forever Red features all the heart-pounding adventure readers expect from Marvel, written by #1 New York Times best-selling author Margaret Stohl. Uncover a new side of the Marvel Universe that will thrill loyal fans and newcomers alike, as Stohl reveals the untold story of Black Widow for the very first time.

Publisher: Marvel Press/ Disney

Released: October 13, 2015

My Thoughts:

First of all…Black Widow is my hero. I’m an *aspiring* redhead aka…I pay good money to be a LEGIT LOOKING redhead even though God really blessed me with brown hair. It’s not my fault He forgot, right?

But that part is beside the point. The point is that I LOVED this book. As a Marvel fan, I’ve been wanting more of a spotlight on Black Widow for ages. Marvel thinks a solo Black Widow movie wouldn’t work even though tons of people want that to happen.

Y’all…this book reads like a movie! Non-stop action and dramatic back stories that are just what you’d expect from Black Widow.

It took a tiny bit for me to get hooked in the beginning, but…when I did get hooked I couldn’t put it down.

Plus, now a sequel has been announced!

Come on, Marvel, use this as your basis to finally make a Black Widow movie!

I can’t wait to own a hardcopy of this book instead of just a digital version because the cover art is beautiful!

ALSO! As a sidenote, I currently am running a giveaway on Twitter to win a copy of Cinder by Marissa Meyer in excitement for Winter’s upcoming release next month! Go to my Twitter and retweet the pinned tweet to enter by 10/31!
