Waiting on Wednesday: By Your Side

51cucezdthl-_sy346_

Summary:

An irresistible story from Kasie West that explores the timeless question What do you do when you fall for the person you least expect?

When Autumn Collins finds herself accidentally locked in the library for an entire weekend, she doesn’t think things could get any worse. But that’s before she realizes that Dax Miller is locked in with her. Autumn doesn’t know much about Dax except that he’s trouble. Between the rumors about the fight he was in (and that brief stint in juvie that followed it) and his reputation as a loner, he’s not exactly the ideal person to be stuck with. Still, she just keeps reminding herself that it is only a matter of time before Jeff, her almost-boyfriend, realizes he left her in the library and comes to rescue her.

Only he doesn’t come. No one does.

Instead it becomes clear that Autumn is going to have to spend the next couple of days living off vending-machine food and making conversation with a boy who clearly wants nothing to do with her. Except there is more to Dax than meets the eye. As he and Autumn at first grudgingly, and then not so grudgingly, open up to each other, Autumn is struck by their surprising connection. But can their feelings for each other survive once the weekend is over and Autumn’s old life, and old love interest, threaten to pull her from Dax’s side?

Why I’m Excited:

Four words: Locked in a library.

Say what?!

This sounds like such a fun book and you can never go wrong with Kasie West.

I’m so ready for this one and to get it for my library! My girls at work are LOVING Kasie’s books since I ordered two of them back in the Spring.

By Your Side release January 31, 2017!

That’s a long wait, but I’ve already got it ordered.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Names They Gave Us

Summary:

From the acclaimed author of When We Collided comes a vibrant, compelling story of love, loss, faith, and friendship.

Lucy Hansson was ready for a perfect summer with her boyfriend, working at her childhood Bible camp on the lake and spending quality time with her parents. But when her mom’s cancer reappears, Lucy falters–in her faith and in her ability to cope. When her boyfriend “pauses” their relationship and her summer job switches to a different camp–one for troubled kids–Lucy isn’t sure how much more she can handle. Attempting to accept a new normal, Lucy slowly regains footing among her vibrant, diverse coworkers, Sundays with her mom, and a crush on a fellow counselor. But when long-hidden family secrets emerge, can Lucy set aside her problems and discover what grace really means?

Emotionally-charged and unforgettable, Emery Lord’s storytelling shines with the promise of new love and true friendship, even in the face of life’s biggest challenges.

Why I’m Excited:

The next Emery Lord book!! I’m ready.

Emery’s books have quickly become insta-buys for me and are the perfect romance stories for a quick read, though they’re usually painful at times.

This one sounds like no exception!

The only problem is that it doesn’t release until May 16, 2017.

That’s a long time, but I already have it preordered and know that I’ll love it!

5 questions with PC Cast

moonchosen_blog-tour-banner

Quick note:

I’m SO excited for Moon Chosen, out next Tuesday! I met Ms Cast a couple years ago at RT book convention and she was incredibly nice. I loved the House of Night series when I was in college, so I’ve been excited to see what she’s done on her own.

Thanks to Ms Cast for taking time to answer a few questions for the blog tour!

PC CAST

  1. What 3 words would you use to describe your book? EXCITING – HEARTWARMING – UNIQUE
  2. What’s in your “Author Survival Kit”? (Pens, Caffeine, iPods, etc?)

My tread desk!  Yep, I walk and write at the same time (it’s actually awesome and easy – google it!).  I write in silence.  Well, except for four dogs and a Maine Coon cat who tend to either sleep like the dead or create chaos.  I brew a big pot of either green tea or herbal tea and get to work surrounded by my fur babies, research books, crystals, and infused candles made specially for me by the wonderful Sage Goddess (you can find her on Etsy).

3. What was the last book you read that you just couldn’t put down?

SCARLET RAIN by my talented daughter, Kristin Cast.  The book rocks!  But that’s not why I couldn’t put it down.  I couldn’t put it down because she based the mom character in the book on me and what happens to “me” in that books is…well…you’ll have to read it to see!

4. What kind of research did you have to do for the story?

Well, I destroy all of Portland’s bridges, so I had to do lots of research about how they were built so that I could properly tear them down!  My father taught biology for about half a century, so being sure my ecosystems work is imbedded into my DNA.  This series merges biology and fantasy, which means I have to be sure the biological foundation of my world is solid so that it can remain believable when I add fantasy.

I also had to do quite a bit of research about treehouses for the Tribe of the Trees.  I even went to Washington state and stayed in a treehouse B&B (it was fantastic!).

5. Who is your ultimate book boyfriend?

From another author – Jamie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon’s OUTLANDER series.  From my own books – ClanFinan from the Partholon series: DIVINE BY MISTAKE, DIVINE BY CHOICE, and DIVINE BY BLOOD.

Moon Chosen is out next week!

Quick note:

Gemina releases a week from today!

Illuminae was one of my favorite books last year, so I’ve been waiting for this one since last October.

Again, it comes out next week, but right now you can get Illuminae in ebook forms for $1.99.

Here’s more about Gemina and I’ll also link to the Illuminae kindle page to get that awesome sale price.

Gemina:

Brace yourself for GEMINA—the highly anticipated sequel to the book critics called “out-of-this-world awesome,”—featuring journal illustrations by bestselling author Marie Lu!

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.
The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminaecontinues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.
Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.
When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.
But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.
Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.

Music Friday: Shovels & Rope

Welcome!

….to another Music Friday!

I think this is my third time to share about music that I’m loving and today I want to talk about Shovels & Rope

They’re a PRECIOUS (total relationship goals…) married couple who also make some awesome music.

I managed to see them perform at my favorite, tiny, local venue almost 2 years ago and was blown away. I was already a fan, but was crazily impressed with how 2 people could command a crowd the way that these two did.

Absolutely amazing!

Now S&R are back with a new album TODAY.

Go do your ears a favor and look them up ASAP.

To help you out, GO HERE to see the video for their latest single “I Know.”

Happy listening, y’all!

This is Where it Ends

Quick note:

I KNOW I didn’t post a single thing in September. I’ve been BUSY, y’all…not with writing obviously, but with other stuff. I did cool stuff in September too like meet Sarah J Maas! …but I just wasn’t feeling writing.

Either way, it’s been a weird few months, but I’m planning to have a full October including two blog tour stops that I’m excited about.

So…let’s get October started even though it’s 6 days in.

My Thoughts:

I hate to write a negative review. I really, really do.

That said, I couldn’t finish this.

I did try really hard to finish, but it just didn’t happen for me.

Let me begin by saying that I usually am all over a book with multiple points of view. For some reason I find them more interesting.

This book though….maybe it was just me, but I couldn’t connect to any of these characters. It’s awful to even say, but I wasn’t concerned about how it would end to know what happened with these characters. (I’m not terrible- I didn’t want them to get shot! I just didn’t care to keep reading and find out.)

Further- the timeline. The present story takes place over 54 minutes. That’s great and would be a neat concept if we didn’t need SO MUCH BACKSTORY.

I’m normally one that likes the story built up, but this time made the story drag on and on for me- maybe because there were 4 stories to focus on.

This is just not a book that I would overall recommend…and I was excited for it!

I’m sure lots of people would enjoy it, and I heard good things about it prior to its release, but it just wasn’t for me.
