No time to read :(

So I’m a librarian with no time to read. I’ve been slowly working trough Marissa Meyer’s Scarlet, but only at a pace of maybe 2 chapters a day. It isn’t easy to get up at 4:45 each morning and then stay awake to read when I get home from work. I’m trying though.

I’ve been revisiting some old favorite lately through my 5th and 6th grade classes. Each week I highlight a different book and read a chapter or two so that the kids get a feel for the book. So far, I’ve read parts of Holes by Louis Sachar and Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli. Those were two of my favorites in middle school, so I love introducing them to my students. I’m also reading Sideways Stories from Wayside School to my 2nd graders. They come in BEGGING for me to read it and I’ve heard, “wow, chapter books are cool!” That’s exactly why I’m reading it to them. I want them to know that “big kid” books can be just as funny and cool as their picture books.

Next, send me some new release suggestions if you have any! I’m getting ready to set up some orders for my library and would love to hear what has struck a chord with everyone lately.

Blog Tour: Gated by Amy Christene Parker

Y’all. If you haven’t read Gated yet then I’m here to ask WHY? I’ve previously reviewed Gated and loved it! The book is a fictional, inside look at a cult and how the members are misled. I’ve only read good reviews and I cannot wait to read Parker’s next book, which I’ve heard is a continuation of Gated. Check it out TODAY on amazon, nook, or your local bookstore.

As an added bonus, I have a special treat for the first person to find my twitter address and tweet me that they want the surprise I have. It isn’t the book–I’m keeping that for my library at school 😛

I know that I’ve been lacking in posts, but I’ve been swamped getting started with school. When I do get in from work, I’m exhausted. Being a librarian is HARD! That said- I wouldn’t choose anything else.

Now!!! I suck at scheduling and have TWO cool things for tomorrow! The first is the blog tour for Amy Christine Parker’s Gated. I’ll have a cool spotlight post up with some more information about it. Look for that around 8am.

NEXT! There will be a reveal for the new Fisher Amelie book “Greed.” I’m so pumped for this book, so go ready to see what is up!

Thanks for sticking around!

This week has been crazy since my school starts back on Monday. As a first time librarian, I have a ton on my plate right now! Luckily, I have a good friend who is a librarian that has been giving me plenty of tips and tricks. I also had lots of help yesterday from a book rep I met in April via said librarian friend. These first couple weeks will be a learning experience!

However, I’m here to share some new ideas that I’ll be using when the kids come to the library! First off: I’ll have a “book of the week” and give a book talk on the book as well as show a book trailer if it is available. That will carry over to this page! I’m hoping to do those posts every Wednesday.

Next–I will continue to do reviews, but they may not be new books as frequently. I’m planning to read and review books in my library that I haven’t already read so that I can use them as a “BotW” for the kids. I’ll try to keep these as current as possible. I won’t bore you with reviewing books I have that you read years ago.

Third–I’ll probably share some lesson ideas. Sorry if no one likes this idea. It’ll be fun stuff–I promise!

Fourth–Stay with me if I get bogged down. This is my first year teaching and it is in a area I didn’t go to school for. That said–I’m pumped to be a librarian!!
